Thengumarahada is 30 Km from Bhavani Sagar in the Moyar valley range and comes under Nilgiri North forest division. Thengumarahada rest house is located adjacent to the Thengumarahada village (classified as one of the remote villages in Tamil Nadu). From the rest house, the Kodanadu view point can be seen. Moyar valley is the connecting point of Western and Eastern Ghats. It is an important elephant corridor. Every year an average of 1000 elephants use this migratory route to reach Mudumalai and Sathy forest divisions. The tiger censes conducted indicated a healthy population of tigers in the Moyar valley (which has a forest area of just 30 Sq Km). The Thengumarahada jungle is a unique scrub jungle which resembles the African Savannah jungle. There is a variety of fauna that includes tiger, leopard, elephant, bear, wild boar, gaur, sambar deer, black buck, spotted deer, four horned antelope, feral buffalo, striped hyena and a variety of bird species (including the endangered white rumped vulture). There is also a notable population of reptiles. The moyar river runs right across the jungle which is an important water source for the wild life. The actual name of the river in Tamal is mayar the reason being the sudden increase and decrease of water level in the river due to the rain in Mudhumalai
Thengumarahada is often quoted as a wildlife paradise.
